About the Author
A. de Lyra Tavares is a Brazilian journalist, writer, and activist. He was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1941, and he began his career as a journalist in the 1960s. Tavares was a vocal critic of the military dictatorship, and he was forced to go into exile in 1969. He returned to Brazil in 1979, and he has continued to write and speak out for democracy and social justice. Tavares is the author of several books, including Brazil of My Generation, The Struggle for Democracy in Brazil, and The Future of Brazil.
