Introduction

In the world of classical music, few names are as revered as that of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. His genius and prolific output have left an indelible mark on the history of music, and his works continue to be performed and enjoyed by audiences around the world.

But what of Mozart's children? Did they inherit their father's musical talent, and if so, how did they use it?

In their book, "Famous Children of Mozart," authors Ann Rachlin and Susan Hellard explore the lives of Mozart's two sons, Karl Thomas and Franz Xaver Wolfgang. Both boys showed great musical promise from an early age, and both went on to become successful musicians in their own right.

Karl Thomas Mozart

Karl Thomas Mozart was born in Vienna in 1784. He began studying music with his father at the age of four, and by the time he was six, he was already performing in public. Karl Thomas was a gifted pianist and violinist, and he also composed several works of his own.

In 1791, Mozart died suddenly at the age of 35. Karl Thomas was just seven years old at the time, and he was devastated by his father's death. He continued to study music, however, and he eventually became a successful concert pianist and composer.

Karl Thomas Mozart toured Europe extensively, and he was particularly popular in England. He also taught music at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In 1826, he married the English singer, Mary Ann Wood. The couple had two children, a son named Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart II and a daughter named Maria Anna Mozart.

Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart

Franz Xaver Wolfgang Mozart was born in Vienna in 1791. He was just a few months old when his father died. Franz Xaver was also a gifted musician, and he began studying music with his mother at an early age. He was a talented pianist and composer, and he also played the violin and the viola.

Franz Xaver Mozart toured Europe extensively, and he was particularly popular in Germany and Austria. He also taught music at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In 1817, he married the German singer, Constanze Weber. The couple had five children, three sons and two daughters.

Franz Xaver Mozart died in Salzburg in 1844. He was 53 years old.
