The Liberation of Brazil

In 1822, Cochrane was invited to Brazil to help the Brazilians in their struggle for independence from Portugal. He led a naval campaign against the Portuguese fleet, and he played a key role in the Brazilian victory at the Battle of Bahia in 1823. This victory led to the Brazilian declaration of independence in 1825.
