In 1945, he was elected to the Academia Brasileira de Belas Artes, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a Brazilian artist.

Later Career

Galvez continued to paint and exhibit his work throughout his life. He had a major retrospective exhibition at the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes in Rio de Janeiro in 1987, and he was awarded the Ordem do Mérito Cultural, the highest cultural honor in Brazil, in 1995. Galvez died in Rio de Janeiro in 1998 at the age of 91.
